Maintenance Of Children
According to the Women's Charter, a child is defined as a child of a
marriage who is under 21 years of age.
Application for maintenance
Either parent who has custody of the child can apply for
maintenance. Court can order either or both parents to pay for the
child maintenance. This order may be made during the marriage, or
separation of after divorce.
Maintenance
The amount of maintenance for the child depends on factors such as
the financial requirement for the child's education, food and
lodging expenses.
Period for maintenance
An order for maintenance usually expires when the child reaches the
age of 21 or when the child
becomes financially independent. However if the child suffers from
any physical or mental disability, Court may extend the order of
maintenance until the child recovers. |
